Depending on your condition, you may need to be hospitalized more than once or for an extended period. What is an Inpatient Service?

Most of your interactions with doctors occur in what is called the outpatient setting. Outpatient services covers care that is outside of a hospital stay. This includes: scheduled office appointments, follow-ups, diagnostic testing, and even some procedures. 

An inpatient service provides care when you are admitted to a hospital. That includes everything from monitoring your condition to day-to-day care to recovery and discharge.

At Columbia, patients who work with our expert interventional cardiologists as part of our outpatient service or who are referred to us via an outside hospital transfer, through the emergency room, or direct admissions from home are admitted to our private inpatient service. 

The clinical team of doctors and nurses supervising your stay and support staff like coordinators and social workers can help answer your questions and keep things running smoothly. An outstanding inpatient team can make a hospital stay much easier and less stressful.
